According to reports, officers on Monday visited the Adeniyi family residence in Ogbomoso, where they arrested Adeyemi’s father. A family friend who was visiting the home at the time was also reportedly taken into custody.

Confirming the development to Punch, human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) criticised the arrest, describing it as unlawful and expressing concern that it left Adeniyi’s elderly mother traumatised.

“There is no legal basis for substituted arrests,” Falana said.

He added, “Police have now stormed the house of the parents of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, Plot 3, Adeniyi Dynasty, behind Technical College, Road Safety Area, Ogbomoso. The father has been arrested. The young man has promised to show up in court, so why arrest his father?”

A resident of the area, who also spoke about the incident, alleged that the officers arrived in four vehicles before taking Adeniyi’s father away despite attempts by neighbours to intervene.

“They came with four vehicles, started harassing the family and eventually took the father away. They did not allow neighbours to intervene before leaving. At the moment, there is a man in blue clothes patrolling the area,” the resident alleged.

The police had not publicly commented on the arrest at the time of filing this report.
