In a recent interview with Punch, the “Monalisa” crooner revealed that there were times he seriously considered quitting music, as he battled self-doubt and uncertainty about his future in the industry.
“I’ve had moments where I almost quit music,” Lojay admitted. “There were nights I wondered if anyone would ever listen to my songs. But those quiet years shaped me — they taught me patience, resilience, and gratitude for every single person who listens to my music today.”
Speaking on how he manages fame and its accompanying pressures, the singer said he often retreats from the spotlight to reconnect with his roots and stay grounded.
“Family, faith, and silence keep me sane. Sometimes I just disappear — no music, no social media. Just time to breathe, pray, and reconnect with God and my loved ones. That’s how I remember who I am beyond the fame,” he said.
Reflecting on the global success of “Monalisa” and its remix featuring American superstar Chris Brown, Lojay said the collaboration reaffirmed his belief that music transcends borders.
“That song showed me that music truly has no boundaries. Chris came in with full respect for the record — he felt it, understood it, and elevated it. It reminded me that being authentic goes further than trying to sound international.”
Addressing why it took him a while to release his debut album XOXO, Lojay explained that he wanted the project to reflect genuine experiences and emotions rather than rush the process.
“I didn’t want to release an album just for the sake of it. I wanted to live first, to experience enough to fill the songs with truth. Every track on XOXO came from a real place, and I needed time to find that honesty,” he said.
