Obi made the disclosure in a statement shared on his X account on Sunday.

In his message, he described the current political environment as increasingly hostile and discouraging, noting that even within alliances, individuals can encounter unexpected resistance and criticism.

He clarified that his decision was not driven by personal disagreements with party leaders, including David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, for whom he expressed continued respect.

According to Obi, persistent internal conflicts and legal disputes within the party played a major role in his exit. He likened the situation to challenges he previously faced within the Labour Party Nigeria, maintaining that such issues have repeatedly disrupted his political journey.

Reaffirming his philosophy, Obi emphasized that leadership should be rooted in service, sacrifice, and the upliftment of others, stressing that he has never used power to oppress or intimidate.

He also rejected claims that his actions were motivated by personal ambition, stating instead that his primary concern is improving national security, economic conditions, and the welfare of Nigerians.

Despite the challenges he outlined, Obi expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future.

In his detailed statement, he spoke about the emotional and personal struggles faced by those working within the political system, describing a climate marked by pressure, scrutiny, and discouragement.

He lamented that the system often works against the people it is meant to serve, while values such as humility, integrity, and compassion are sometimes misunderstood or undervalued.

Obi further noted that even within political circles, individuals who expect support may instead encounter criticism or isolation, adding that sincere efforts are not always appreciated.

He explained that his decision to step away was partly to allow others within the party space to operate without tension, though he acknowledged that such decisions are often misinterpreted.

Reflecting on broader societal issues, Obi questioned why integrity and prudent management of resources are sometimes viewed negatively, and why adherence to the rule of law is mistaken for weakness.

He made it clear that he is not driven by a desire to hold political office, but by a commitment to building a society where citizens feel safe, economically secure, and supported.

“I am not desperate for power,” he stated, “but I am committed to seeing a Nigeria where people can live with dignity, free from fear and hardship.”

Obi concluded by reaffirming his belief that Nigeria can still achieve progress through responsible leadership grounded in justice, fairness, and equal opportunity for all.
