Sh*ck Move: Douye Diri To Join All Progressives Congress On Monday — Bayelsa Political Earthquake

According to TheCable, President Bola Tinubu, several APC governors, and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) are expected to welcome Diri at a formal ceremony in Abuja.

Sources familiar with the development revealed that Diri, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on October 15, had been engaged in behind-the-scenes negotiations with key APC power brokers to finalize his move.

A senior APC insider told TheCable that the delay in Diri’s public declaration was intentional — aimed at ensuring a smooth merger of PDP structures with the APC in Bayelsa to prevent internal divisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The governor wanted to make sure all interests were properly harmonized before making his defection public. Both sides have been working out a sharing formula to ensure stability and avoid post-defection crises,” the source disclosed.

Diri’s switch marks a major victory for the APC in the oil-rich South-South region — long regarded as a PDP bastion.

The PDP has been hit by a wave of defections in recent months, weakening its foothold across several states. Apart from Diri, three other governors — Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), and Peter Mbah (Enugu) — have all crossed over to the APC in the past year.

This exodus has slashed the PDP’s control to just eight states, fueling growing concerns within the opposition of a total political collapse in its traditional southern strongholds.

Meanwhile, sources hint that Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, may also be on the verge of joining the APC — a move that could further deepen the PDP’s internal turmoil.
