El-Rufai, accompanied by his former Chief of Staff, Bashir Saidu, has experienced increasing tensions with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in recent months. Despite initially being nominated for a ministerial position by President Bola Tinubu, his nomination was rejected by the National Assembly, reportedly over security concerns.

Although El-Rufai insists he has moved on and remains supportive of Tinubu’s presidency, his recent engagement with PDP leaders has raised questions about a possible political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections. Analysts are closely watching whether this signals a potential defection.

As of now, neither El-Rufai nor PDP leaders have disclosed details of their discussion.

El-Rufai Joins Atiku on Condolence Visit to Edwin Clark’s Family

Meanwhile, on Friday, El-Rufai joined former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on a condolence visit to the family of the late elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, who passed away on February 17, 2025, at the age of 97.

Atiku shared a video of the visit on , offering his condolences and prayers for the bereaved family.

“Today, I led a delegation that included the former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai (@elrufai), on a condolence visit to the family of foremost statesman and nationalist, Chief Edwin Clark,” Atiku wrote.
