Sh*ck Twist: Bala Mohammed’s Alleged APC Defection Plan Falls Apart

The planned defection of Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly collapsed following disagreements over a proposed power-sharing arrangement.

Sources say negotiations between the governor’s camp and APC leaders broke down after the ruling party rejected a 60–40 formula that would have determined control of party structures in Bauchi State.

The proposed arrangement would have allowed the governor’s faction to retain majority influence over party machinery from the ward level up to the state executive structure.

Speaking with journalists, Sama’ila Burga, chairman of the Turaki-led PDP faction in the state, said the APC was unwilling to accept the proposed structure.

He explained that the discussions involved the governor’s representatives and senior APC officials, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reportedly playing a role in efforts to persuade Mohammed to join the APC.

According to him, the arrangement was similar to what had been granted to defecting governors in other states, but insisted the APC ultimately rejected the proposal.

Burga added that after consultations with stakeholders, the PDP faction decided to formally end the negotiations.

He stated that the discussions failed to produce a final agreement, as the conditions presented were not accepted by the APC leadership, leading to the termination of the talks.

Despite the collapse of the proposed defection, the governor’s camp has indicated willingness to explore other political options.

The faction further noted that consultations are ongoing, with consideration being given to alternative political alignments outside the APC.
