A political group from the North Central region of Nigeria has raised concerns about the alleged growing political alliance between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and the former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Operating under the North-Central APC Forum, the group believes that this political alliance is aimed at undermining the current governor of Benue, Hyacinth Alia, who is said to have a fragile relationship with the SGF. The forum warned that if left unchecked, the emerging relationship between the former Benue governors could harm the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) not only in Benue State but across the entire North Central region. The group has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene.

In a statement issued by its Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, the forum expressed its surprise that Ortom, who had previously clashed with Akume, has now become politically aligned with him. This shift indicates the formation of a new alliance between Akume and Ortom against Governor Alia.

The forum noted that Akume and Alia have been in a standoff over party control in Benue, while Ortom’s administration is under investigation by Alia’s government. However, recent developments suggest that Akume and Ortom may be collaborating against Alia.

It was also highlighted that Ortom, who had defected from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during his governorship, attended a thanksgiving event in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State over the weekend, honoring the SGF. The event also celebrated the 50th birthday of Dr. Matthias Byuan, a prominent ally of Akume and Executive Director at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).
