Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday, Wike alleged that General Saham, then the General Officer Commanding the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, was instructed to assassinate him.

“General Saham, the former GOC of 6 Division, tried to kill me. Amaechi promised to make him the next Chief of Staff. General Saham gave an order that I should be shot,” Wike alleged.

The former Rivers State governor further disclosed that he avoided visiting the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) after learning that the same officer had been posted there.

“When I heard he was now in the NSA’s office, I refused to go there,” Wike stated.

He also revealed that a colonel who refused to obey the directive to shoot him was punished.

“General Saham ordered that I, as a sitting governor, should be shot. When the colonel refused, he was detained for six months,” Wike added.

The minister insisted that many opposition governors who now complain of harassment did not experience the level of intimidation and threats he endured while in power.
