Sh*cking Twist: Pathologist Rules Out Drug Abuse In Mohbad’s Autopsy Report

Fresh developments have surfaced in the investigation into the death of Nigerian artist Mohbad, as a forensic pathologist has dismissed drug abuse as the cause of death, instead pointing to a possible fatal allergic reaction.

Presiding over the inquest at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Coroner Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi noted that a final decision would be issued later and communicated to all relevant parties.

During Friday’s hearing, Dr. Uwom Eze, the forensic pathologist who carried out a second autopsy on the late singer, testified that no traces of illicit substances were detected in Mohbad’s system.

In response to questions from Abiodun Kolawole of the African Women Lawyers Association, Dr. Eze stated:

“There was no evidence that the deceased was engaged in hard drug use or substance abuse.”

Dr. Eze further explained that Mohbad had been given medications typically used for treating pain and allergic reactions. Specifically, antihistamines and analgesics were found in his system—indicating he was likely in pain prior to his death.

However, the context of how the injection was administered remains unclear due to missing documentation. Eze noted an injury on Mohbad’s right arm but concluded it was superficial and not life-threatening.

“Even a newborn wouldn’t die from such an injury,” he said, adding that post-mortem changes may have obscured key details, including fluid loss.

He emphasized that the advanced decomposition of the body limited the accuracy of findings, though the possibility of a rapid and fatal hypersensitivity reaction could not be ruled out.

“Based on autopsy observations, lab results, and other information, it is plausible that a swift and deadly allergic reaction to an injected substance led to the breakdown of vital organs,” Eze concluded.

Mohbad, aged 26, passed away on September 12, 2023, following a minor arm injury and a subsequent injection at his residence in Lekki.
