According to Naija News, the nomination of Usoro Akpabio as MD, alongside former Deputy Speaker Chibudom Nwuche from Rivers State as Chairman, was confirmed through a letter from President Bola Tinubu.

Soon after the announcement, speculation surfaced suggesting that Usoro Akpabio was the Senate President’s first daughter.

However, in an interview with The Punch, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Yemi Adaramodu, debunked the rumour, describing it as completely unfounded.

“There’s absolutely no truth in that claim,” Adaramodu said. “It’s like assuming anyone named Adaramodu in Osun or Ondo is automatically my relative — it just doesn’t work that way.”

He explained that despite the similarity in names and shared state of origin, there is no familial link between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Usoro Akpabio.

“The Senate President and the new MD of the South-South Commission are completely different individuals. Sharing a surname or cultural ties doesn’t imply a relationship,” he stated.

Adaramodu emphasized that Usoro Akpabio’s appointment was based on merit and made at the sole discretion of the President.

“Even though a qualified relative of the Senate President could be appointed, in this case, there is absolutely no connection between them whatsoever,” he concluded.
