Sh*ckwave In Edo Politics: PDP Rep Abruptly Resigns Amid Tensions Reason Why

Hon. Marcus Onobun, the sole Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member representing Edo State in the House of Representatives, has officially resigned from the party, attributing his decision to ongoing internal conflicts and a lack of stable leadership.

Representing the Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency, Onobun submitted his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP Ward 6 Chairman in Esan West Local Government Area on Friday.

He stated that the move came after “extensive consultations” with political allies, leaders, and constituents who shared his concerns about the party’s condition.

“The persistent internal crises, unstable leadership, and entrenched divisions within the party have become irreconcilable,” Onobun declared.
“These issues have derailed the PDP from achieving its founding vision and from serving Nigerians effectively.”

A former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Onobun lamented the party’s failure to resolve longstanding issues, which he said has undermined good governance.

“Despite my loyalty and years of dedicated service to the PDP, I believe that stepping away is necessary to protect the interest of my constituents and the mandate I carry,” he said.

Onobun’s exit marks yet another high-profile defection, as the PDP continues to struggle with internal strife and leadership crises both nationally and at state levels.

Though he has not announced his next political move, speculation suggests that he may align with another major party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
