Sh*ckwaves In Ekiti: APC Breaks Silence On Fayemi’s Alleged Defection Plot To ADC

The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted claims that former Governor Kayode Fayemi is planning to defect from the party.

The rumour suggested that Governor Biodun Oyebanji and other APC leaders were opposing a supposed meeting reportedly initiated by Fayemi to signal his intention to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

However, in a statement released on Sunday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, dismissed the report as unfounded and an attempt to sow discord. He stated that Fayemi has no plan to destabilize the party or pull members away through any secret stakeholder gathering.

“We are not losing sleep over this. It’s clearly the season of propaganda—full of fabricated stories and half-truths aimed at misleading the public,” Dipe said.

He encouraged anyone curious about developments within the party to reach out to him directly, rather than rely on gossip. Dipe questioned the credibility of such claims, given that the APC in Ekiti remains solidly united and focused on winning the next governorship election—potentially making history by producing a governor with two consecutive terms.

Dipe attributed the rumours to external forces and internal “crisis merchants” bent on causing division, but emphasized that their efforts would fail.

He further affirmed that all party stakeholders, including Fayemi, are fully behind Governor Oyebanji’s re-election bid.

“Governor Oyebanji has performed admirably, earning the confidence of both the party and the electorate. All key members, including Fayemi, are aligned with this view,” he stated.

“If Fayemi is calling a meeting, it’s certainly to strategize on our collective goal—not for defection. He remains a pillar of the APC in Ekiti and wouldn’t let the house he helped build fall apart.”
