According to her, the neighbour got married young—at just 19—and had long endured physical abuse from her husband. However, things began to change after the neighbour overheard her teaching an online course aimed at empowering young girls.
Inspired, the neighbour later confided in her, saying she was done being a “pick me”—a term used to describe women who seek male validation through submissive behaviour.
Following that moment, she directed her neighbour to follow feminist pages online. Not long after, the woman said her neighbour’s husband returned home one day and slapped her—as he usually did—but this time, she slapped him back and warned him never to try it again.
“It gladdened my heart,” she wrote, proud of the strength her neighbour had found.
