Shettima left Abuja on Monday alongside fellow APC governors and party leaders to receive Diri, marking the official induction of the Bayelsa governor into the ruling party.

Governor Diri had previously confirmed his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC. Speaking at the 14th Bayelsa Thanksgiving Day held at the Ecumenical Centre in Igbogene, Yenagoa, on Sunday, Diri described the move as a challenging but necessary step in the best interest of Bayelsa residents.

Having resigned from the PDP on October 15, Diri spent weeks in discreet discussions with key APC figures to finalize his defection.

Addressing the public for the first time about his decision, the governor acknowledged that some may not immediately understand his reasons for joining the APC, but expressed confidence that clarity would come with time.

He emphasized that politics should focus on delivering development, assuring that his administration will continue to ensure Bayelsa residents benefit from the dividends of democracy. Diri also highlighted the state’s current peace and security as a reason for the people to remain grateful.
