An EFCC source, speaking anonymously to Vanguard on Sunday, May 4, 2025, confirmed the arrest, stating that it followed multiple complaints accusing the social media commentator of using his platforms to harass, insult, and intimidate individuals—potential violations of the Cybercrimes Act of 2015.
The source declined to reveal the identities of the complainants or provide further details about the nature of the allegations.
VeryDarkMan’s legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, also confirmed the arrest and disclosed plans to work on securing his client’s release. “I’m currently not in Nigeria, but I’ll be back in Abuja by Monday afternoon. We’ll meet with EFCC by 4 p.m. to secure his bail,” Adeyanju said, noting that the Commission has not yet formally specified the charges.
Meanwhile, reports suggest the EFCC may file formal charges against Otse as early as Monday.
