The session, initially scheduled for 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2025, was postponed following a formal request from Vice Admiral Ibas to shift the meeting to a later date, according to Vanguard.

This development follows an earlier announcement by the House spokesperson, Hon. Akin Rotimi (Jnr), on Wednesday, confirming the session shortly after the committee held its inaugural meeting.

The committee was formally inaugurated by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Rotimi noted that the initial session was intended to provide a platform for reviewing early reports and developments in Rivers State since Vice Admiral Ibas assumed office as Sole Administrator.

He further highlighted that the committee’s activities are guided by its constitutional mandate under Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers it to exercise comprehensive legislative oversight.

In a statement, Rotimi said, “In line with its constitutional responsibility to ensure effective oversight as provided under Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the committee resolved, among other matters, to invite Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) for a detailed interactive session.”

He stressed that engaging with the Sole Administrator is a vital step toward gaining clarity on the current situation in Rivers State and enabling the House to carry out its oversight duties in the public interest.
