Shock Move: Yar’Adua Meets Defence Chief Over Special Voting For Armed Forces!

Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua has advocated for the formal adoption of early voting for members of the Armed Forces, other security personnel, and essential election duty workers during his visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

During a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, on Tuesday in Abuja, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua emphasized the need to institutionalize early voting for members of the Armed Forces, security personnel, and key election officials. This initiative, being developed in collaboration with civil society organization Yiaga Africa, seeks to resolve the long-standing issue of voter exclusion among more than two million personnel who were on duty during the last general elections.

“The people who protect our democratic system deserve the opportunity to participate in it,” Yar’Adua stated. “Our proposed legislation will make early voting a permanent feature for these essential workers.”

The lawmaker invited the Defence Headquarters to actively engage in the upcoming public hearing on the bill. He also presented a second legislative proposal focused on creating sustainable and alternative funding sources for the Armed Forces, which has already cleared the Senate’s second reading.

General Musa welcomed the proposals, calling them “critical and commendable steps” toward enhancing the rights and effectiveness of military personnel. He affirmed the military’s commitment to supporting electoral reforms and pledged full participation in the legislative process.

This meeting underscores a broader push for electoral inclusiveness and improved welfare for Nigeria’s armed forces.
