Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has clarified that the party will not be inviting former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to join them.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Adebayo explained that Obi is already familiar with the SDP, having had past interactions with the party. In an interview with News Central on Tuesday, the SDP leader emphasized that Obi, with his history of switching political parties, knows when and if he will leave his current party.
“Peter Obi is well aware of the SDP, and it’s his decision whether he wants to join or not. We only reach out to those who are unfamiliar with the party. Obi knows the SDP well and has been in contact with us before. He’s not a stranger to the party, so the decision is his. If he wants to stay in the Labour Party or go elsewhere, it’s entirely up to him. Peter Obi is experienced in switching parties, so if he decides to join us, we will welcome him. If he chooses a different path, we wish him well. It’s not an issue for us,” he said.
Adebayo further added that the SDP is open to welcoming politicians, like former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, without worrying about their ambitions. He dismissed concerns that the influx of prominent figures could hinder his own presidential aspirations.
“We are focused on building a strong political platform in the SDP. We are reaching out to those dissatisfied with the current political situation and inviting them to explore our vision and manifesto. If someone joins our party, we will acknowledge their ambitions, but they must align with our goals,” he explained.
Adebayo also mentioned that while he does not speculate about those outside the SDP, he would discuss the ambitions of any politician who formally joins the party, including El-Rufai, now that he is a member.
