Showdown Looms! Obidient Movement Reacts Fiercely To ADC’s Deadline Against Peter Obi, Others

The Obidient Movement has clarified that Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is not desperate to become Nigeria’s president in 2027.

The group stated this while reacting to the ultimatum issued by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which asked Obi and other members of the opposition coalition to resign from their political parties and join the ADC.

ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, had earlier disclosed that the directive was reached during a caucus meeting with key coalition leaders, though no timeline was given for compliance.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Friday, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Tanko Yunusa, described ADC’s demand as being made in bad faith. He stressed that Obi, as a leader with a broad national appeal, has always prioritized wide consultations before taking major political decisions.

Yunusa emphasized that Obi’s ambition is not driven by desperation but by a commitment to justice and fairness, particularly regarding how the coalition zones its presidential ticket and principal offices.

In a statement, the Movement reaffirmed its commitment to the coalition’s vision but questioned why the ADC appeared to be shifting agreements made earlier.

It noted that Obi’s decision to join the coalition was anchored on principles of equity, fairness, and inclusivity — values that remain central to the Obidient Movement’s push for good governance ahead of the 2027 elections.
