Earlier this week, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) disclosed that the Nigerian government is actively engaging with the European Union (EU) to secure Ekpa’s extradition. This announcement was made by Major General Edward Buba, DHQ’s Director of Defence Media Operations, in reaction to Ekpa’s recent declaration of December 2 as the date for the map presentation and official proclamation of the Biafra Republic.

In his response, Ekpa, who holds the title of Prime Minister within BRGIE, took to his official X account on Wednesday to address the matter. He invited Nigerian government officials to participate in the upcoming Biafra Convention in Finland, suggesting that this would provide an opportunity for them to engage in a debate regarding his pursuit of Biafra’s liberation.

Ekpa emphasized that the Nigerian government’s repeated appeals to the EU and Finland for his extradition serve to validate the legitimacy of the Biafra Government in Exile.

“We are inviting them as representatives and observers of Nigeria. The Biafra government will recognize their presence in Finland and offer a platform for Simon Ekpa to debate Nigeria’s issues,” Ekpa stated. He specifically invited Major General Edward Buba to the convention, noting that a special accreditation card had already been approved for him.

He added, “The ongoing calls by the Nigerian government to the EU and Finland to act against me only reinforce the legitimacy and influence of the Biafra government in Exile and the de facto Biafra government in the homeland. We are committed to bringing Biafra out of exile.”

• Ekpa also extended an invitation to Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, to attend the Biafra convention, which is scheduled to take place in Lahti, Finland, from November 29 to December 3, 2024.
