Her family took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news, revealing that Cat peacefully passed away on Wednesday morning, February 28, at her childhood home. They expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love and support received during Cat’s illness and affirmed their commitment to preserving her legacy, with her brother continuing to oversee her brand and release more of her unreleased art.
“We are eternally thankful for the outpouring of love that Catherine and our family have received over the past few months,” the statement conveyed. “Cat saw her music soar to unexpected heights and finds solace in knowing that she will continue to provide for her son through her music, made possible by all of you.”
Cat’s final song, “Dance You Outta My Head,” released on January 19, touched many hearts and achieved remarkable success, reaching No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 and climbing into the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. The track garnered over 12.8 million streams worldwide on Spotify.
The overwhelming support for Cat began when she shared a teaser of the song on TikTok in early January, revealing her heartbreaking battle with cancer. She courageously announced that all proceeds from the song would support her 7-year-old son.
“I’m fighting to make it to my radiation appointments so I can buy myself some more time to witness the release of this song,” she bravely shared in another TikTok update before the song’s debut. “I’ve transferred all the rights of my songs to my son so I can leave something behind for him. I don’t have much.”
“Dance You Outta My Head” resonated deeply with TikTok users, becoming the soundtrack for nearly 200,000 videos as people shared dance clips set to the infectious pop melody. Influencers like Charli D’Amelio also joined in, encouraging their followers to stream the song in solidarity with Cat’s courageous battle.
