According to human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, a total of 2,111 protesters were detained by security agencies during the demonstrations. However, on Sunday, sources within the DSS confirmed that six individuals had been released following the completion of investigations. Additionally, three others are set to be arraigned in court.
One DSS source stated, “On September 19, 2024, six persons held in Kaduna were released after being cleared at the end of investigations. Meanwhile, three individuals are being prosecuted as there are prima facie cases against them.”
The source further noted that the DSS Director-General ordered the immediate release of those detained for their involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protests. The service remains committed to investigating and prosecuting individuals who misuse their rights to commit crimes.
Attempts to reach the DSS spokesperson for further comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
