Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu assured residents on Saturday of his commitment to making local governments autonomous as they participated in the local government elections. Former Governor and APC leader Senator Aliyu Wamakko, after voting at the Gidan Kara polling unit in Wamakko Local Government Area, noted that the high voter turnout demonstrated public support for the APC administration. He called on the winning candidates to view their victories as a mandate to serve and to prioritize transparency.
Isa Acida, the APC chairman in Sokoto, also expressed satisfaction with the electoral commission and praised the large turnout of voters in Acida town. He expressed confidence that the party’s candidates would succeed, attributing this to the governor’s performance.
Suleiman Aliyu, chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, assured that the polls would be conducted transparently. He explained the decision to use manual voting due to complaints from the recent general election and confirmed that at least 15 political parties were participating in the local government elections.
