Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has elevated the bounty on the perpetrators responsible for the tragic killing of five soldiers at Obikabia junction in Aba from N25 million to N30 million.
Governor Otti made this announcement during a visit by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, to Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
This decision comes just a week after the governor pledged ₦25 million to anyone providing information leading to the apprehension of the culprits.
The soldiers fell victim to an attack on May 30 at Obikabia junction in Aba, allegedly perpetrated by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in an attempt to enforce a sit-at-home order.
Governor Otti emphasized the necessity of the increase in the bounty, made possible by an additional ₦5 million contribution from a diaspora indigene of the state residing in the United States.
“With the bounty now standing at N30 million, we encourage anyone with valuable information that could lead to the apprehension of the criminals to come forward,” Otti stated.
Furthermore, Otti reiterated the state government’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies to prevent such incidents from recurring, ensuring the safety and security of residents.
“We are resolute in our efforts to ensure that perpetrators of such heinous acts are brought to justice and that our state remains a no-go area for terrorists, killers, kidnappers, and other criminals,” Otti affirmed.
### Conclusion
Abia State’s decision to escalate the bounty underscores its determination to apprehend the perpetrators and maintain law and order within its borders. Through collaborative efforts with security agencies, the state aims to foster a safe and secure environment for its residents.
