Soludo Storms Anambra Cattle Market With Fierce Anti-Drug Crusade!

The Anambra State Government has taken its anti-drug abuse initiative to the Amansea Cattle Market in Awka North Local Government Area, intensifying efforts to curb substance abuse and addiction among residents and traders.

The awareness campaign, conducted in collaboration with cattle dealers under the theme “Operation Stop Drug Abuse and Addiction,” aimed to educate the public on the dangers of drug misuse and inspire young people to channel their energies into more productive ventures.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, described the cattle market community as a key partner in Governor Soludo’s development drive and urged members to steer clear of drugs to safeguard their future.

Dr. Mefor warned that drug abuse can result in financial ruin, poor decision-making, and severe mental health issues like schizophrenia. He reassured the youths of the government’s commitment to their welfare, pledging support for the rehabilitation of those struggling with addiction.

He said, “We chose to kick off this campaign at Amansea Cattle Market because we care deeply about the youths here and throughout Anambra State. Just as we are here today, we will extend this outreach to markets, churches, mosques, and other public spaces.

“Our goal is to ensure no one can claim ignorance. For those willing to change, Soludo’s government is ready to offer support.”

Highlighting various youth-focused initiatives like the One-Youth-Two-Skills programme and free education policies, Mefor encouraged participants to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the administration.

He also promised to consult with the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to seek Governor Soludo’s approval for relocating the cattle market to a permanent location, while urging traders to continue being responsible citizens.

Earlier, Alhaji Bello Magari, Chairman of the Amansea Cattle Market, acknowledged the alarming rise in drug abuse nationwide and stressed the importance of the campaign in restoring sanity to the market environment.
