South Africa Announces Relaxed Visa Policies For Nigerians Visiting For Tourism And BusinessSouth African President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that Nigerian tourists can now apply for a visa without the need to submit their passports, as part of efforts to simplify the visa process for Nigerians. This development was shared in a statement on Tuesday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Ramaphosa made the announcement during the opening of the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Cape Town, which was attended by President Tinubu. He highlighted that South Africa had taken steps to ease visa requirements for Nigerian businesspeople and tourists, including offering five-year multiple-entry visas for qualifying Nigerian business travelers.

“Our efforts to create a favorable environment include a simplified visa process for Nigerian businesspeople. Qualifying Nigerian business people can now be granted a five-year multiple-entry visa,” Ramaphosa said.

He further emphasized South Africa’s commitment to removing barriers to greater investment and addressing the challenges faced by businesses in both nations. Reflecting on 30 years of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and South Africa, Ramaphosa expressed optimism for the future, noting that the two countries’ strong relationship could drive more economic cooperation.

“Nigeria hosts a number of South African companies, and South Africa has always been open to Nigerian business. However, we acknowledge there is more to be done. We need to remove remaining obstacles to investment and address the challenges that companies face in both countries,” he added.

Ramaphosa also praised the Nigerian government for its reforms aimed at strengthening the business environment and providing assurances to investors, including those from South Africa. “Our government continues to improve the ease of doing business in South Africa. We aim to create an environment where investors can operate, trade, and pursue opportunities in various sectors,” he said, expressing hope for more Nigerian companies to invest in South Africa.

In addition to business cooperation, Ramaphosa spoke about the importance of placing Africa’s development and challenges facing the Global South on the G20 agenda, especially with South Africa hosting the G20 Leaders’ Summit for the first time on African soil. “We will seek to galvanize support for the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and pursue an inclusive global agenda. We believe that global programs should ensure that no one is left behind in our societies,” he concluded.
