South Africa Crisis: Dabiri-Erewa Reveals Who Holds The Final Say On Nigeria’s Next Move

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said that Nigeria’s response to the ongoing tensions in its bilateral relations with South Africa will ultimately be decided by higher authorities.

She made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

Dabiri-Erewa strongly condemned the renewed wave of xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians in South Africa, describing the situation as “terrible, disappointing, and painful,” and insisting that “enough is enough.”

She explained that any official action regarding Nigeria’s diplomatic response would come from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and possibly the President.

“Whatever Nigeria will do in terms of bilateral relations, we will hear from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and maybe even the President. But honestly, enough is enough; enough really has to be enough,” she said.

Her comments came shortly after Nigeria evacuated the first group of citizens affected by the unrest in South Africa.

A total of 258 Nigerians arrived in Lagos aboard an Air Peace evacuation flight and were received by officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye.

According to authorities, the evacuation was carried out to protect citizens who had faced threats, harassment, and violence.

The returnees are expected to undergo documentation, medical checks, and temporary support arrangements before being reunited with their families.
