Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) without any conditions, similar to the way Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, commonly known as Sunday Igboho, was released from detention by Beninese authorities.
In a statement issued by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, COSEYL asserted that Igboho’s release was orchestrated by the Federal Government.
Although Igboho, in a statement he posted on his Instagram account, expressed gratitude to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Wole Soyinka, Ayo Adebanjo, and other Yoruba personalities for their role in his release, COSEYL remained steadfast in its belief that the Federal Government played a significant role in securing Igboho’s release in Benin Republic.
COSEYL contended that it amounts to selective justice for the Federal Government to assist in securing the release of Sunday Igboho from detention while Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is also an agitator, remains in custody.
The statement further emphasized that agitation is not a crime under the law, as it is the right of any citizen who feels marginalized or aggrieved to express their concerns.
COSEYL expressed astonishment that the Federal Government, tasked with the responsibility of safeguarding and providing security for Nigerians, has not unconditionally released Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody, as ordered by the Federal Court of Appeal.
They believe that this inaction contributes to a double standard and exacerbates the ongoing insecurity in the South East region.
