Reports indicate that Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, voiced his concerns at Emeka Ihedioha’s 60th birthday democracy colloquium on Monday. Obi condemned Nigeria’s failing democracy, particularly criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s state of emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the House of Assembly.
In response, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed Obi’s remarks, urging him to be cautious with his statements. Onanuga argued that Obi benefits from the free speech provided by democracy and would not have been able to make such claims if democracy had indeed collapsed.
Reacting via his handle, Sowore lambasted Onanuga’s statement, asserting that it further proves the decline of democracy under Tinubu’s administration. He added that the Presidency continues to attack Obi because they perceive him as weak.
“The statement made by Bayo Onanuga regarding Peter Obi’s comments is utterly ridiculous. The mere fact that he made such a statement proves the complete collapse of democracy under Bola Tinubu’s regime.
“I must also emphasize that they keep targeting Peter Obi because they see him as a wimp!” Sowore stated.
