A team of female legal practitioners representing the artist stated in the court documents that NAPTIP’s public declaration of Speed Darlington as “wanted” was unwarranted, defamatory, and damaging to his reputation and personal safety.

The controversy began after NAPTIP published a notice on June 27, 2025, featuring his photo and name with the headline: “Wanted by NAPTIP.” The notice was widely disseminated through national newspapers and digital platforms, alleging involvement in serious criminal offences.

According to the agency, Speed Darlington was declared wanted following an Instagram livestream in which he allegedly confessed to having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl. NAPTIP’s official statement listed alleged offences including rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking, urging the public to report any credible information on his whereabouts.

In reaction, Speed Darlington released a video on YouTube where he denied the allegations, accused NAPTIP of seeking “social media clout,” and insisted he had committed no crime.

“I’m not coming. I didn’t commit any crime. All I did was speak,” he stated defiantly.

He further ridiculed the agency’s summons, demanding a ₦2.5 million appearance fee, which he equated to a professional performance, and added that round-trip tickets for himself and his personal assistant should also be provided.

“There is no evidence. Who is the complainant? This is a publicity stunt. You want to use me to trend,” he said.

In addition to monetary damages, Speed Darlington is also seeking a perpetual injunction to bar NAPTIP and its representatives from acting on or enforcing the contents of the June 27 publication in any form.
