The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has refuted claims of establishing a hotel in Abuja following widespread outrage over images circulating online. Reports surfaced after the Naija News shared photos of the purported hotel on its Facebook page earlier this week.
In response, Abubakar Umar, an Assistant Controller and spokesperson for the Service, clarified the situation in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja. He revealed that the impressive hotel is actually owned by the Correctional Cooperative Society (COCOS).
Umar emphasized that the COCOS, formed in 1996, operates as a cooperative society for all NCoS personnel. Alongside various properties, including housing estates, the society aims to facilitate easy homeownership for serving and retired members.
Furthermore, Umar stressed that the NCoS does not claim ownership of the establishment. Instead, he highlighted the positive impact the hotel has had, including job creation for youths and commendations from dignitaries.
The hotel, operational since its establishment in 2021 and situated along Bill Clinton Drive Airport Road in Abuja, operates under the ownership and management of COCOS. Umar urged the public to disregard misinformation and encouraged them to patronize the hotel for its quality services and competitive pricing.
He also advised news reporters to verify information related to the Nigerian Correctional Service through official channels before publication.
