Stakeholders Express Concern Over Government’s Lack Of Support For Golf

Major General Ahmed Sabo (retd), the captain of the Calabar Golf Club, highlighted the government’s indifference as a key factor behind the absence of major international tournaments in Cross River State.

During a courtesy visit to Governor Bassey Otu’s office, Sabo emphasized golf’s potential as a significant tourist draw through the hosting of prestigious tournaments.

“We urge the state government to recognize golf as a sport capable of attracting esteemed personalities and enhancing tourism,” he stressed.

The club, in a show of solidarity with the Otu-led administration’s efforts to uplift the state, presented the governor with golfing equipment as a token of support.

In response, Governor Bassey Otu affirmed his administration’s dedication to revitalizing golf as a prestigious sport capable of enticing both domestic and foreign visitors and investors to the state.

Expressing satisfaction with the historical significance of golf in Calabar, Governor Otu acknowledged the need to reclaim the sport’s prominence in the region.

“We are committed to not only reclaiming but also positioning ourselves at the forefront of the golfing landscape,” he affirmed, pledging ongoing support for the maintenance of the golf course under his administration.
