Stakeholders Gather As Federal Government Aims To Resolve Dangote’s Regulatory Dispute

The Federal Government took a significant step on Monday towards resolving the dispute between billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). Dangote’s disagreement with the Nigerian government primarily concerns his refinery project in Lagos. Initially, Dangote expressed frustrations over challenges hindering his efforts to import crude oil and subsequent operational delays. The situation intensified when NMDPRA stated that necessary licenses for Dangote’s refinery operations had not been granted by the government.

CEO Farouk Ahmed clarified these issues during a media briefing, asserting that the refinery was in the pre-commissioning phase and lacked required licenses. He also addressed concerns about the refinery’s diesel product meeting international standards, which Dangote disputed in a subsequent media interaction.
