The decision to visit the facility without prior notice was prompted by numerous concerns raised by Sokoto residents regarding inadequate service delivery. Dilapidated structures, inconsistent power supply, staff shortages, and a lack of functional medical equipment were among the key concerns that compelled the governor to take action.
Governor Aliyu arrived at the hospital on a tricycle, seeking firsthand information from the hospital staff. His visit lasted for four hours, during which he personally witnessed the issues at hand. He expressed his surprise at the conditions he encountered, highlighting the risks that patients and their families face due to the hospital’s dirty environment and lack of functional equipment.
Addressing the situation, Governor Aliyu stated, “Patient relatives rely solely on their personal alternative source of power due to the erratic electricity supply in the hospital. Therefore, I have directed the management of the hospital to see me for further discussion on how to remedy the situation.”
It is worth noting that the hospital’s deteriorating state may be attributed to past administrations’ failure to release the monthly allocations owed to the facility.
