Stay Focused Or Suffer Worse!” — Sowore Delivers Blunt Warning To Nigerians

Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has criticized the ongoing coalition talks, calling them superficial and lacking in ideological direction or purpose.

His remarks come at a time of increasing political realignment, as key figures begin to position themselves for the 2027 presidential election.

Among those spearheading the opposition movement are former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, and former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

However, in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sowore warned that these coalitions are directionless and could inadvertently bolster President Bola Tinubu’s chances of winning a second term.

He argued that the focus on elite-driven alliances is a distraction, saying, “These efforts are only clearing the path for Tinubu’s re-election. They are blocking the emergence of a truly organic coalition of the oppressed. Nigerians are being misled into thinking these politicians are fighting for them.”

Sowore emphasized the lack of unity and purpose among the opposition figures, noting, “I’m not the one who’s isolated — the so-called coalition is what’s truly isolated. They can’t even convene a proper meeting or settle on a political platform. Now, they talk about registering a party — that’s not a coalition, that’s desperation.”

He continued, “A coalition without ideology, conviction, character, or integrity is bound to fail. Nigerians need to understand that the only real solution is one they create for themselves. We must chart a new course.”

Sowore cautioned that if citizens continue to be distracted by hollow alliances, they risk ending up in an even worse situation. “That’s been Nigeria’s cycle since the return of civil rule,” he said.

When asked whether Nigerians should place hope in the current administration’s economic policies, Sowore responded firmly: “Absolutely not. I’ve warned before — the more hope you invest in this government, the more disappointment you’ll face. It’s up to Nigerians to decide if they want to keep enduring this suffering. The current situation is unacceptable.”

He concluded, “There is no bright future under this path. What lies ahead has already played out in the past two years. I’m not a pessimist, but if we remain on this course, meaningful governance will continue to elude the country.”
