The Anambra State Government has denied allegations of vote-buying following Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s promise to reward members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with ₦1 million for each ward won in the upcoming November 8 governorship election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Governor Soludo, while addressing supporters during a campaign rally in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area, explained that the incentive was aimed at boosting morale among party faithful. He recalled that during the senatorial campaign, wards that delivered victories for APGA received similar rewards.

“Any ward that APGA wins will receive ₦1 million, while the best-performing wards will get ₦5 million, ₦3 million, and ₦2 million respectively,” Soludo said.

In reaction to criticism from opposition parties who described the gesture as “open inducement” and a breach of the Electoral Act, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, dismissed the claims as deliberate mischief. He argued that the governor’s comments were taken out of context, stating, “How does motivation for supporters amount to vote-buying? A vote must be priced and bought for that to qualify as vote-buying. Governor Soludo merely sought to encourage his supporters—this is motivation, not inducement.”
