The announcement, made at the University of Ilorin by the Unionās President, Sheikh Zulukainaini AbdulRahman Opolo, marks a major endorsement of the Senator’s long-standing contributions to student welfare and grassroots advancement. With this elevation, Senator Mustapha assumes the Unionās second-highest advisory roleānext only to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, who remains the Permanent Life Patron.
Speaking at the conferment ceremony, President Opolo described Senator Mustapha as āa dependable ally whose support has transcended administrations.ā He lauded the Senatorās unwavering backing for the Union, citing recent interventions like the donation of a brand-new utility bus to ease transportation challenges as part of many impactful gestures over the years.
Accompanied by six of his predecessors, the IESU President presented a formal letter of credence to the Senator, a document personally endorsed by the Emir of Ilorin. The letter acknowledged Senator Mustaphaās consistent investment in student growth, educational support, and community-oriented initiatives across the Ilorin Emirate.
Widely known as the Turaki of Ilorin, Senator Mustapha has built a reputation for prioritising the interests of his constituents, especially the youth. His appointment as Grand Patron is viewed by many as both symbolic and strategicācementing his influence among young people and reaffirming his role as a trusted partner in community development.
The Ilorin Emirate Students Union, the apex student body uniting all Ilorin Emirate students in tertiary institutions nationwide, plays a key role in youth mobilisation, civic engagement, and educational advocacy. Senator Mustaphaās new role is expected to strengthen the Unionās institutional capacity while further bridging the gap between student interests and political leadership.
In a political climate where public trust is earned through action, not rhetoric, this appointment stands as a glowing testament to a leader who has consistently walked the talk.
