Students Left Stranded As Hostel Collapses During Torrential Rain In Benin City

According to Sahara Reporters, the incident occurred on Ekhator Street in Ekosodin, an area predominantly occupied by students.

The collapse happened following a heavy rainstorm on Saturday morning in Benin City.

Rescue operations were still underway at the time of this report. A student, who requested anonymity, confirmed that a university rescue team had successfully pulled some of the trapped occupants from the rubble, although many suffered serious injuries.

The injured students were immediately rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

“There is still one victim trapped inside the debris. The individual reportedly made a distress call from under the rubble, pleading for help, and rescue teams are actively working to locate and save them,” the student shared.

The Dean of Students Affa at UNIBEN is present at the site, leading rescue efforts alongside the university’s response team.

As of the time of reporting, the university management has yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse or the total number of affected individuals.
