Subsidy Elimination Leads To Increased Financial Flexibility For Federal And State Governments, Claims Akpomudje, SAN....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Olorogun Albert Akpomudje, SAN, holds the esteemed positions of Life Bencher and Prime Minister (Otota) of Ancient Olomu Kingdom in Delta State. Recently, he shared insights on various national issues in an interview, ranging from the impact of federal government policies on the economy to corruption in the judiciary, appointment of Supreme Court justices, proposal for state police, and the implementation of the Orosanya report.

Regarding the recent approval by a Federal High Court in Abuja for the registration of a new lawyers’ association by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Akpomudje expressed concern about the potential division within the legal profession. While acknowledging the democratic right to form associations, he emphasized the strength that comes from unity within the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

Addressing the pervasive issue of corruption in the judiciary, Akpomudje conceded that corruption exists within the judiciary due to its composition of fallible human beings. He pointed out flaws in the current method of appointing judicial officers, advocating for a more significant role for the legal profession in the selection process to ensure competence and integrity.

On the proposal for state police as a solution to the country’s security challenges, Akpomudje highlighted the risk of potential abuse by politicians if not properly regulated. He stressed the need for legislative measures to prevent the misuse of state police for political gain while acknowledging the necessity of decentralized security forces in addressing widespread insecurity.
