Sunday Dare Claims Tinubu’s Role Was Crucial In Buhari’s Presidential Victory
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications and Orientation, praised President Bola Tinubu for his crucial role in the rise of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Before the All Progressives Congress (APC) triumphed over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015, Buhari had previously attempted to win the presidency in 2003, 2007, and 2011 without success.

The key turning point occurred when Buhari’s Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) merged with Tinubu’s Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and other parties to form the APC, which ultimately led to Buhari’s electoral victory in 2015. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Dare emphasized that Tinubu’s contributions were vital to Buhari’s success.

“If you consider Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s role in Buhari’s emergence, it’s evident that without his efforts in establishing the party and creating that platform, President Buhari wouldn’t have made it,” Dare stated.

When questioned about his involvement in promoting Buhari as the APC candidate, Dare clarified that it was a collective effort. “It wasn’t just me; it was a team. The victories in 2015 and 2019 were influenced by President Tinubu, along with many others who played significant roles,” he said.

Reflecting on Buhari’s legacy, Dare, who served as Minister of Sports and Youth Development during Buhari’s administration, refrained from labeling his tenure a failure, asserting that governance is an ongoing process. “Buhari did his part and moved on, like Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, and Jonathan before him. Now, President Bola Tinubu is making bold, courageous decisions that others did not,” he noted.

Dare also commended Tinubu for his reforms, particularly the removal of the petrol subsidy, which aims to realign the nation’s economy for sustainable growth.
