Super Eagles Clash: Madagascar Coach Martins Speaks With Confidence

Madagascar head coach Corentin Martins has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure a positive result against Nigeria in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixture on Friday, September 25.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Barea are set to face the Super Eagles in a Group L encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with kick-off scheduled for 5pm Nigerian time.

Although Nigeria boast considerable experience and quality in their squad, Madagascar will draw encouragement from their previous meeting with the Super Eagles. The Barea have recorded one victory in their last five encounters with Nigeria, with that win coming during the 2019 AFCON group stage in Egypt, when they secured a 2-0 victory in Alexandria.

Martins acknowledged the strength of the Nigerian side but maintained that his players are motivated and prepared to compete for a favourable result after their preparations for the opening qualifier.

“There’s a lot of motivation. We’re playing against a big African nation with good players. We’ve prepared well and are trying to recover from our long trip. We’re motivated to play well,” Martins told reporters during a press conference in Uyo.

The Super Eagles, meanwhile, will be aiming to begin their Group L campaign with a victory after missing out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
