Super Eagles Star Eric Chelle Gets Full Salary Upfront, Confirms Shehu Dikko

This initiative, supported by a presidentially endorsed group, aims to enhance Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

In an interview with former Nigerian international Segun Odegbami on Eagle 7 Sports Radio 103.7 FM, Shehu Dikko outlined the commission’s efforts to boost Nigeria’s World Cup qualification campaign. These measures include financial backing, logistical improvements, and incentives for players.

Dikko reflected on the early struggles, noting that Nigeria had earned only three points from four qualifying matches, which posed a significant challenge. To address this, he proposed the creation of a Presidential Support Group, a public-private partnership designed to raise funds and resources.

“The President approved our request, making this the first time the support group is included in the national budget,” Dikko stated.

One of the group’s key contributions has been financing the national team’s technical direction. “We worked with the Nigeria Football Federation to appoint the coach. While the NFF finalized his contract, the support group agreed to fund his salary until October, allowing the NFF to focus on securing long-term funding and sponsorship,” he explained.

Dikko clarified that the commission is not directly funding this initiative; rather, the support group is providing vital assistance to ease the NFF’s financial burden. He also highlighted how the commission arranged a charter flight for Nigerian fans to attend the match against Rwanda, greatly boosting team morale.

Additionally, Dikko shared that a new bonus structure for World Cup qualifiers has been established. “Bonuses for players after the Rwanda match were paid promptly, underscoring our respect and commitment to the team,” he concluded.
