In a judgment delivered on August 23, the panel, led by Justice Lawal Garba, supported the Court of Appeal’s July 15 decision, which had deemed Sylva’s appeal an abuse of court process due to the filing of two separate notices of appeal.

The Supreme Court panel, referencing the 1999 Constitution, concluded that the APC candidate had the right to only one appeal and criticized Sylva for submitting multiple notices of appeal. The appeal was unanimously dismissed for lack of merit.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had previously announced that Governor Duoye Diri of the PDP won with 175,196 votes, defeating Timipre Sylva of the APC, who received 110,108 votes.
