Akpabio, who turned 63 on Tuesday, explained that he decided against a grand event in consideration of the current state of the nation. The brief celebration took place after the Senate plenary, with a few senators in attendance.
Speaking after cutting the cake, he stated:
“While we continue with our legislative duties, we also pray that God will empower our security chiefs to rescue all children still in captivity. For those who lost their lives trying to protect these children from abduction, may their souls rest in perfect peace.”
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, APC–Kano North, praised Akpabio during the occasion, describing him as a special leader endowed with the ability to uplift others.
“The Senate President is a remarkable person—someone who can lift your spirits even when you’re down. God has blessed him with that gift,” Barau said. “We must continue to pray for him and his family—for good health, long life and prosperity—so he can keep serving the nation as he has always done.”
