Security Shake-Up: Presidency Commands Urgent Protection For Courts Nationwide
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has directed all its commands nationwide to immediately strengthen security for the judiciary—covering courts and judicial officers—following a clear mandate from the Presidency.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The directive, dispatched via a wireless message dated December 8, 2025, from the Inspector-General of Police’s Secretariat in Abuja, underscores renewed priority on safeguarding judges and judicial infrastructure.
According to Sahara Reporters, the order was sent to senior police authorities across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and specialized units, stressing the need to elevate the protection of judicial personnel.
Commands that do not already have Judges Protection Units (JPUs) were instructed to establish them without delay.
All police units were further ordered to ensure continuous and adequate security coverage for judges and court facilities within their respective Areas of Responsibility (AOR).
To emphasize its urgency, the directive was classified as “very important” and “immediate,” with commands required to confirm compliance promptly and without reminders.
This intensified security arrangement for the judiciary is consistent with the President’s ongoing directive to withdraw police officers from general escort and guard duties for Very Important Persons (VIPs).
The withdrawal initiative is part of a wider police reform effort aimed at redeploying personnel to essential security operations and addressing the nation’s broader safety challenges.
