Recent reports from PUNCH Metro highlight a surge in cult-related clashes and violence in Sango-Ota, Ijoko, and nearby regions. A PUNCH Metro report from January detailed the brutal murder of two individuals in a suspected cult clash in Ota town.

On Monday, CSP Sales Gwazara, head of the Sango/Ota Police Division, confirmed the suspects’ alleged involvement in cult activities. Gwazara noted that tackling such individuals is challenging, often involving suspects from neighboring Lagos State. However, strategic surveillance and intelligence have led to the recent arrests.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola confirmed via WhatsApp that Salami and Adeola were apprehended on August 8, 2024, following a tip-off from local residents. The Anti-Robbery Squad swiftly responded, resulting in the suspects’ capture while others managed to escape.

The police recovered a toy silver pistol, homemade amulets, and suspected Indian hemp from the scene. During questioning, Adeola admitted to being a member of the Eye Confraternity, having joined the group in 2022.

Odutola added that the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has instructed divisional heads to intensify operations against cult activities. Recent efforts, including the arrest of notorious cult member Kunle Polly, underscore the ongoing commitment to enhancing security and reducing crime in the state.

In related news, a suspected cult member identified as Seun was killed and decapitated during a cult clash in Ijoko in May 2024, following what is believed to be a retaliatory attack.
