The suspect is said to have broken into an apartment in the community during the early hours of Friday. When some residents spotted him, he attempted to flee the scene. A group of locals pursued him, but in his haste to escape, he ran onto the expressway, where he was hit by a speeding vehicle.

During a visit to the area on Sunday, our correspondent observed the man still lying unconscious at the edge of the Abule Egba bridge, with swollen eyes and bruises all over his body. A local shop owner, Ganiyat Enitan, confirmed that the man had been there since the incident occurred. “We saw him on Friday morning, and he’s been here ever since,” she said. “He was reportedly caught trying to scale a fence at midnight, and those who saw him decided to chase him. While fleeing, he ran into a vehicle and got knocked down.”

Upon closer inspection, it was confirmed that the man was still alive, with his legs moving intermittently. Another local business owner, who identified himself as Sesan, mentioned that the suspect had initially been lying on the bridge walkway before he rolled into the main road. “We saw him this morning on the main road,” Sesan said, adding that some LASTMA officials had placed a tire behind him to prevent vehicles from hitting him.

A transport worker, Saheed Adekunle, voiced concerns for the man’s safety, urging the state government to remove him from the road before he is crushed by another vehicle. “We want the state government to come and take him away,” Adekunle said. “If he stays here much longer, he’ll definitely be run over. The tire LASTMA placed is not enough to stop vehicles, especially with how recklessly some trucks drive.”

Attempts to reach Nosa Okunbor, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered and a text message had yet to receive a reply by the time of this report.
