The National Legal Adviser, Samuel Akingbade has said the appointment of Pa Bashiru Lamidi Apapa as the party’s acting chairman was not influenced by any outside force.

The legal practitioner stated this while reacting to wide speculation that Lamidi was planted as a mole to destroy the party by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

SaharaReporters reported on Friday that some Labour Party supporters took to social media, particularly Twitter, to tackle Pa Bashiru Lamidi Apapa, for allegedly working against the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the February election.

SaharaReporters had also reported that the Labour Party’s leadership crisis came to a head last Thursday as seven members of the National Working Committee of the party announced the National Vice-Chairman (South), Lamidi Bashir Apapa, as the acting chairman of the party, replacing the suspended chairman, Julius Abure.

The picture of the new party chairman with a supporter of the ruling APC has been trending on Twitter, with the user claiming that it was clear that Apapa was a mole planted by the ruling APC to divide the Labour Party.

Debunking this, the party National Legal Adviser said Lamidi’s appointment was made by the Labour Party executive sequel to the restraining order made against Abure by the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged forgery of certain documents.

He said, “I want to state emphatically that it has nothing to do with any outsider. This issue is within the party and is being on for over five months.

“Particularly, I have also heard people talking about the fact that probably APC is the one infiltrating the party. I want to tell you in my honor that it has nothing to do with APC. We are ‘Obideints’ 100 percent.”
