The visit is part of ongoing military collaboration between the two nations, designed to strengthen the Beninese armed forces and bolster regional stability.
This development comes shortly after the Nigerian Senate approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to deploy troops to the Republic of Benin. The request was considered and unanimously adopted during Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The Senate’s decision followed a thorough review by the Committee of the Whole, which endorsed the Federal Government’s intervention under ECOWAS protocols to restore peace and security.
“An injury to one is an injury to all,” Akpabio remarked before announcing the Senate’s consent to the deployment.
The approval letter from the Senate will be forwarded to President Tinubu, providing legal authorization for Nigeria’s military support to Benin.
The move underscores Nigeria’s commitment to promoting regional security and defending democratic governance in West Africa, particularly in light of escalating threats of unconstitutional power seizures in the sub-region.
