In an interview with The Sun, Sani, a former lawmaker, urged the North to reorganize itself and reflect on how Northerners in Asiwaju’s government can contribute to regional development.

He highlighted that President Tinubu has entrusted key institutions in his administration to Northerners.

Shehu Sani said: “He has allocated key institutions and ministries to the North. A Northerner from Kaduna State serves as the Chief of Defence Staff. A Northerner from Adamawa State holds the position of National Security Advisor. Additionally, a Northerner is the Minister of Agriculture, along with the Minister of State for Agriculture. Northerners also occupy the Minister of Defence and Minister of State for Defence roles from Jigawa and Zamfara States, respectively. Even recently, a Northerner served as the Minister of Education.”

Buhari’s Failures

Sani pointed out that Northerners were silent under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari despite numerous failures.

According to Sani, Northern elites refrained from holding Buhari accountable, despite having voted for him.

The former lawmaker stated that Buhari appointed Northerners to key positions, but they did not act in the best interests of the North.

Shehu Sani said: “Let’s face the truth. During our own leader’s eight-year tenure, what did he achieve? Despite numerous failures, people chose to remain silent. They refused to demand accountability. They refrained from criticizing him or acknowledging that they voted for him and he failed.

“For eight years, no significant road projects were completed in Northern Nigeria. Buhari couldn’t activate the Mambila power plant or revive the River Niger. He spent billions on agriculture with little to no results.”
